1 man dead after officer-involved shooting in Kennett

KENNETT, Mo. (KBSI) – The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating after a man was shot and killed by a Kennett Police officer on Sunday, May 28.

Two people fled from a Kennett police officer on bicycles on Sunday night around 10:33 p.m.

After a brief foot chase, one person was in a physical altercation with the officer.

James Matthew Hooten, 46, was shot by an officer. He did not survive, according to Kennett Police Chief Kenny Wilson.

Kennett police are releasing no further details pending an investigation.
