NSSC boys volleyball team finishes third at national tournament

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – “It was something just completely out of this world.”

These nine words are Wyatt McCulloch’s summation of NSSC Volleyball Club’s trip to the Boys Junior National Championship in Salt Lake City.

“Never in my life did I think I would get this far with volleyball, especially to make history with the club,” he said.

And make history they did, placing third after a 7-0 start.

Head Coach Emmanuel Reyes said he and his team, which was the first in the area to reach the national tournament, take great pride in growing the sport of boys volleyball.

“Seeing the strides this sport has taken, at least down here in southeast Missouri, it means a lot, and given our club was a part of that growth, it’s playing a part in that change, it means a lot to me specifically, and I know to this club, it definitely does,” he said.

McCulloch, who will head to Culver-Stockton College this fall, said the trip to nationals reinforced the friendships that these boys can cherish for the rest of their lives.

“All these teammates, I can call my friends, and I can know that they have my back, and I can know that I can have a fun time with them even if one of them is in a bad mood or if I’m in a bad mood, we’ll always pick each other up, and this trip definitely showed that,” he said.
