Postage stamp prices increase for second time this year, eBay sellers feel effects

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The price of a Forever stamp for first-class mail went up from 63 cents to 66 cents on Sunday.

Jennifer Slinkard and her husband rely on eBay to make a little extra cash, and if the price of stamps goes up…

“Everything is going to go up. He’s on disability, so he’s on a tight budget. My full-time job has to make up for what his can’t,” Slinkard said.

And if everything else goes up…

“Even selling more stuff, it’s going to cost us more to send it off,” Slinkard said. “Sometimes it’s not even going to be worth selling that item to send it off because it’s going to cost more to send it off than it is to sell it.”

People like Slinkard, as well as Bobby Asher, a Jackson native who also sells items on eBay, will feel that domino effect.

“As shipping’s going to go up, I’m going to have to charge a little bit less and less each time because it’s just going to continue to add up and make things way higher than what people are willing or wanting to spend on something,” Asher said.

So, it really does add up.

“It might be just three cents or a few cents here or there, but I mean, if you make, you know, 100 sales or something like that, that adds up over time,” Asher said.
