Illinois State Police fight back against vehicle hijacking and motor vehicle thefts

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (KBSI) – The Illinois State Police is crediting a $10 million grant for helping them increase their efforts to target vehicle theft, hijacking, and related violence crimes.
From April through June of 2023, officers were able to recover 204 stolen and/or hijacked vehicles.
They were able to make 32 stolen vehicle-related arrests and three hijacked vehicle arrests.
Twelve firearms were also seized as a result of recovering these vehicles.
The funding boost to increase these efforts was awarded by the Illinois Secretary of State.
