Carbondale man arrested after robbery, shots fired

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces charges after a robbery Tuesday in Carbondale.
Juan M. Rivera, 30, of Carbondale faces charges of assault, aggravated robbery and aggravated battery.
The robbery occurred in the area of the 1200 block of East Main Street on September 19.
On September 19, at 6:30 p.m., Carbondale police officers responded to the area of Chili’s (1240 East Main Street) regarding reports of shots fired.
Officers learned a robbery occurred in the parking lot of a nearby business. That led the victim’s friends to chase the suspect into and out of businesses in the 1200 block of East Main.
The suspect was chased into the parking lot near Chili’s where the victim fired a handgun at the suspect.
No one was injured.
The robbery victim who fired the gun is not facing charges at this time as the Jackson County State’s Attorney reviews the case for further potential charges.
Rivera was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
