GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – A 15-year-old boy faces murder and tampering with physical evidence charges after the shooting death of a woman on Wednesday.

It happened at a home at 940 Hopkins Cemetery Road in Graves County between Wingo and Water Valley around 5:45 p.m. on September 27.

The first sheriff’s deputy arrived within two minutes of the call dispatched.

Mariah Warren, 56, was found in the yard with a shotgun wound.

Authorities interviewed numerous witnesses and the suspect. A firearm was recovered.

The juvenile told authorities that Warren was on the property and not welcome and told to leave. When she refused, police say the juvenile got a shotgun, loaded it and pointed it at Warren outside the yard of the home. When she refused to leave again, the juvenile told police he shot her unintentionally, according to the probable cause statement.

Investigators say there is no evidence the teen made any calls to authorities after the shooting. The teen told authorities Warren had previously tried to enter the rear of the home. Authorities say the teen tried to hide the firearm before calling 911.

The teen was taken to a juvenile detention center late Wednesday night.

Graves County Sheriff’s deputies, Kentucky State Police, Graves County Coroner’s Office, Graves County attorney and commonwealth attorney’s office are investigating.
