Uptown Jackson Oktoberfest kicks off 10th year

JACKSON, Mo. (KBSI) – Uptown Jackson Oktoberfest kicks off Friday night and runs from 10 am to 10 pm on Saturday.

Janna Clifton with the Uptown Jackson Revitalization Organization said this year’s edition of Oktoberfest, the 10th in Uptown Jackson, is a testament to the quality people who make this event possible.

“When you do an event like this, it’s so special to see everyone come out and enjoy it and all the hard work and effort pay off in the best way, people making new friends and enjoying time in what I think is the best little place on Earth,” she said.

Clifton said Oktoberfest not only celebrates the German heritage in the area, but it is also a showcase of what Uptown Jackson has to offer.

“We know not only is it a fun event for everyone, but all the people at these events could be the next businessowners or want to buy a home in Jackson and just help our community continue to grow,” she said.

Sam Lacey of 1 Up Food Truck and Catering, the winners of the inaugural cuisine competition last year, is confident in his team’s ability to repeat as champions.

“We’re going to win that award this year, too,” he said.

He said in addition to cooking up quality food, he is a big fan of Oktoberfest beer.

“I can’t wait for this time of year every year to try all the different Oktoberfests from all the different breweries,” he said.

There is plenty of that beer to enjoy on Saturday, along with staples like a German band, the stein hoisting competition, cornhole tournament, and more.

Clifton said in addition to the traditional activities, it is important to keep things fresh and interesting from year to year…

“One year, we added Friday night. We didn’t have that for a long time. That’s worked, and we’ve continued to grow, so look for something different from us,” she said. “We’ll keep growing and adapting as things change.”

And that different thing this year will be the brat eating competition, which will be Saturday at noon.
