Sikeston DPS Special Operations Group to host annual Kid’s S.W.A.T. Challenge in Sikeston

SIKESTON Mo. (KBSI) – The Department of Public Safety Special Operations Group will host their 2nd annual Kid’s S.W.A.T. Challenge at the Sikeston Sports Complex on October 14.

According to DPS Public Information Officer Tyler Rowe, the first event received such a great turnout, that the team opted to keep the tradition.

“We’re always trying to find way to reach the community, to educate them, to become more personable as officers,” said Rowe.

The event is family friendly and will have activities catered to those 12 and younger.

One activity will include a costume contest where first place will receive a ride in a police car and fire truck. The other activity will include an optional obstacle course.

“Something we started last year that the kids really enjoyed and lets us get out into the public and let kids see something other than just a fire truck and police car,” said Rowe.

The course will be set up to mimic the experience of an officer going through an agility course, but will be scaled down so that kids under 12 can easily participate.

The event start at 11 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. Free lunch will be provided.
