Man facing drug charges after police find fentanyl in Williamson County

HERRIN, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces charges related to possession of fentanyl in Herrin.

Rex A. Piper II, 40, was issued citations for possession of 15-100 grams of fentanyl with the intent to distribute.

On October 13, around 9 a.m., the Marion Police Department Narcotics Unit/Crime Suppression Unit executed a search warrant in the 1200 block of S. Duncan Street in Herrin.

The search warrant was obtained through a fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine investigation that originated in Marion.

Officers found and seized approximately 90 capsules of suspected fentanyl, along with drug paraphernalia and various forms of federal government law enforcement credentials bearing the personal information of the offender, suspected to be fraudulent, according to the Marion Police Department.

Piper was taken to the Williamson County Jail awaiting his first appearance in court.

The Herrin Police Department assisted the Marion Police Department in the investigation.
