Christmas parade continues for Old Town Cape for 31 years

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI)- Christmas is right around the corner and we’re finding out how the city of cape prepares for it.

“Oh, this year we’re going to see a lot of gnomes.”

Kent Zickfield and his wife Vicki, are co-chairmen of the Christmas parade that Old Town Cape puts on every year.

Zickfield says Christmas is something he works on all year

“Yeah kind of worn out when it’s over. But it’s all a lot of fun while it’s going on,” he said.

Zickfield says that getting Christmas ready for the city of cape takes time and volunteers, “It takes a tremendous amount of time, a lot of coordination time, we work on Christmas all year round.”

Brycen Clark is a senior at Notre Dame Regional High School. He says the parade is one of his fondest memories.

“Oh it was real fun, getting some candy watching the parade,” said Clark.

Clark says he has hoped the tradition of the parade continues on for generations to come.

“It is important for the kids,” he said. “It makes us all happy, brings the Christmas spirit around.”
