Zonta Club recognizes several women at awards ceremony

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau Area Foundation is recognizing seven women for their personal and professional leadership and service of women at the 20th annual Women of Achievement event on Friday.
Every year the honorees are recognized for their impact on the region and the Zonta Club does this with the help of various sponsors, according to Zonta Women of Achievement. Proceeds from the event help provide scholarships to female students and financial support to nonprofit organizations.
The Lifetime Achievement Award and Celebration Award is given to one of the five candidates. This year’s honorees are Kathy Swan – Lifetime Achievement Award and Judge Abbie Crites-Leoni – Celebration Award, according to Zonta.
The Women of Achievement nominees are:
- Dr. Jennifer Bengtson, Professor Anthropology at Southeast Missouri State University
- Casey Brunke, Director of Public Works for the City of Cape Girardeau
- Kendra Eads, Executive Director of the Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence
- Beth Keller, Account Manager for Saint Francis Health Plans, Saint Francis Healthcare System
- MaKenya Owens, Community Coordinator for One City and a Realtor with Ritter Real Estate
Kathryn Swan said a few words after receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award,
“Thank you to the members of the Zonta club for this wonderful award and many thinks to all of you for attending today.”
Abbi Crites-Leoni also received an award. Shee said a few meaningful words after receiving the Celebration Award.
“The secret to a Happy Life is work worth doing, for me personally I’m so grateful to have work worth doing and I hope the same for all of you.”
Ever since 2004 over 140 women have been selected from nominations submitted by individuals, organizations, and the community for the Women of Achievement award
