CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is welcoming thousands of visitors and hundreds of artisans and crafters to the 53rd Annual Arts and Crafts Extravaganza at the Show Me Center and Osage Centre this weekend.

Arts Council of Southeast Missouri Director Kelly Downes said the ticket sales alone bring in upwards of $60,000 per year.

Downes described what has allowed this fair to thrive for so long.

People are really attracted to the fact that it’s still artisans that are making things, and I think the other thing is that you’re supporting a local person, not a box store, and I think people are really passionate about supporting families and people who make things, and I think that’s a huge part of it,” she said.

The fair will continue on Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm.
