Woman accused of arson of Carbondale motel

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A Carbondale woman faces arson and other charges after police say she set fire to a motel.

Carbondale police officers and firefightesr responded to the Heritage Motel at 1209 West Main Street on December 12 at 11:08 a.m. for a report of a structure fire.

Firefighters put out the fire. No injuries were reported.

Detectives and arson investigators determined the fire to be the result of an arson.

Rebecca L. Grant, 36, of Carbondale was identified as a suspect. She was arrested on December 18 on aggravated arson, residential arson, endangering the life or health of a child and obstructing justice charges.

Grant was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

The investigation into arson is active and ongoing.
