Annual Jaycee’s Toybox brings joy to more than 1000 children

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The Cape Girardeau Jaycees have spread the joy of Christmas by making more than 400 deliveries this year.
Daniel Forester is the President of the Cape Girardeau Jaycees.
“We service Cape Girardeau city limits, and we serviced over 400 families, reaching out to over 1000 children last (Tuesday) night,” said Forester.
Forester is going on his fifth-year volunteering for the annual Jaycee toy drive, saying it’s the most incredible feeling.
“And after the first time I played Santa, and delivered it was just so gratifying that I just keep coming back I can’t give it up,” he said.
Twenty-eight volunteers for Santa came to help deliver toys, along with some of Santa’s volunteer elves.
Journey VerVynck, 10, and her family have been volunteering with the Jaycees for three years, spreading Christmas joy to those less fortunate.
“So, we got to help out people that could not afford Christmas presents this year, and we got to deliver toys for them,” said VerVynck.
More than 100 volunteers came to help deliver toys. VerVynck’s stepfather, Lance Inman, participated as one of Santa’s volunteers and VerVynck says that made her want to do it every year.
“It was very special,”she said.
The Jaycee’s partner with Toys for Tots to help with donations every year. They say they are thankful for the number of toys donated by the community.
