Gas prices down in Missouri, could be on the rise shortly
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Gas prices have gone down slightly in the last week, but fluctuations could be on the horizon.
The current average cost of a gallon of gas in Missouri is $2.68, which is 2 cents less than last week and 25 cents less than this time last year.
But as we turn the calendar to 2024, AAA Public Affairs Specialist Nick Chabarria said multiple factors could contribute to an upward swing in prices at the pump.
“Things are pointing upwards in the sense that gas prices may be on the rise here shortly,” he said. “One, we saw a huge increase in gasoline demand for holiday travel, and then also we’ve seen crude oil prices come up in the last few days about 2 percent or so. Generally when crude oil increases, we’ll see gas prices at the pump respond the same as well.”
