Paducah woman arrested after 9 puppies found in plastic tote on side of road

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – A Paducah woman faces several cruelty of animal charges after nine puppies were found in a plastic tote on the side of the road.
Joanna Mitchell, 43, faces nine counts of cruelty to animals 2nd degree.
On January 11, McCracken County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of abandoned puppies.
Deputy Miller, the MCSO’s animal cruelty investigator, found nine puppies that were placed in a plastic tote next to a creek on the southside of Paducah.
This was just before inclement and life-threatening weather entered the area.
It was determined that the puppies were about six weeks old at the time. They were also flea-ridden and covered in blood, according to deputies with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Miller obtained an arrest warrant for Mitchell. She was arrested by the Paducah Police Department pursuant to that warrant on the morning of January 23.
Mitchell was taken to the McCracken County Jail.
