Construction worker faces charges for unfinished work in Scott City
SCOTT CITY, Mo. (KBSI) – A construction contractor is facing charges in Scott City for unfinished work.
The chief of police explains why.
“I think that they were not given what they were promised,” said Scott City Chief of Police Chris Griggs.
Police Chief Chris Griggs says the Scott City Police Cepartment conducted an investigation into a company called Blake Hickman Construction after Blake Hickman was hired in 2023 by a local businessman to complete contractor work and renovations.
“Invoices were not being compiled like they were supposed to and the project completion, according to the victim in this particular case- nothing was forthcoming,” said Chief Griggs. “Nothing was adding up.”
And that’s when Griggs says it was upon further investigation that officers discovered another victim, an elderly resident of Scott City.
“He hired Mr. Hickman for some renovations and a project at his home. And it was the same outcome. There was no completion. There were issues with getting product and getting it all done.”
According to law enforcement, on January 17, 2024, Hickman was indicted by the 33rd Judicial Circuit of Scott County, Missouri.
“He was indicted with stealing $25,000 or more.”
And financial exploitation of the elderly.
“These hardworking people just really wanted a renovation done,” said Chief Griggs.
Griggs says because of the lack of work, the first victim had to recalculate everything and is still working to get his business open.
