Sports Zone Jan. 27, 2024: Mayor’s Cup in Perryville

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – It was a full day of basketball in Perryville, and the rivalry between St. Vincent and Perryville provided plenty of thrills on Saturday afternoon.
The girls game was close deep into the fourth quarter. In fact, it was a two-point game with five minutes left, but Perryville would out score St. Vincent 12-5 in those final five minutes, and a steal and lay-in by Abygail Amberger with 20 seconds left was the nail in the coffin for St. Vincent, and Perryville won, 39-30.
On the boys side, both offenses were firing on all cylinders early, specifically St. Vincent’s Max Wheeler, who scored the Indians’ first six points and had eight points in the first four minutes.
Perryville’s Karston Schilli had back-to-back buckets to bring the Pirates level at 10 just past halfway through the first quarter.
But St. Vincent just had too much firepower, as they pulled away from Perryville, 75-51, and the Indians win their fifth Mayor’s Cup in a row.
