Non-profit Marion Connects hosts Decades Bowling Party fundraiser, harnesses power of community

CARTERVILLE, Ill. (KBSI) – “We love our town. We love bringing people together.”
Which is exactly what Marion Connects does, as was the case at their first fundraiser of the year: A Decades Bowling Party at S.I. Bowl in Carterville.
Marion Connects Vice President, and bowler on this day, Alisha Carruthers said the organization focuses heavily on supporting the community and small businesses it serves.
“We love our community. We love supporting local small businesses, which is why we do what we do,” she said. “We just love loving on people.”
Carruthers leaned heavily into the 90s theme, and while, admittedly, her bowling isn’t the greatest…
“I am out here, I am trying, I’m having fun, and that’s all that matters.”
Marion Connects Co-Chair, Marion native, and small business owner Autumn Vinyard said it brings her great joy to see her community flourish and come together as one.
“I really enjoy just seeing people in our community have a good time and seeing southern Illinois be the best it can be,” she said.
So, whether it’s Decades Bowling, Third Thursdays, or any one of the several events Marion Connects provides to the community, you never know who you might meet, or…
“Who you connect with.”
No pun intended, of course.
