Travel expert gives advice on vacation savings
(KBSI) – An Expedia travel expert says to try and book vacations earlier in advance to save money.
Emily Kaufman AKA “The Travel Mom” says now is a great time to book a vacation because, “We’re after the busy holiday season and before spring break.”
Booking 28 days in advance for domestic travel could potentially net 24% in savings, says Kaufman.
For booking international travel, she says its best to book at least 60 days in advance to save around 10%.
To get the best chance at the most savings, Kaufman says not to book more than four months before your vacation.
Traveling during peak summer season likely won’t land you any deals, but holding off until September can help you find cheaper prices, according to Kaufman.
“If you have any flexibility, it’s going to be a lot less crowded and more affordable to go at different times,” said Kaufman.
Destination flexibility can also help you save some money.
“We’re seeing an uptick in people visiting places that are a little off the beaten path, but still have the same vibe and flavor as the more popular destinations for example, Curaçao instead of Saint Martin, Taipei instead of Seoul, Memphis instead of Nashville,” she said.
Being flexible with the day of your departure and arrival can also help you find cheaper options, like traveling during the week instead of the weekend, says Kaufman.
