Vienna High School students earn food handlers certification

VIENNA, Ill. (KBSI) – Students in Vienna have been working after school to earn their food handlers certification.
The Illinois Department of Public Health has recognized these students for their certification.
Having completed this process, the students are now prepared to work in a food service job and have a greater knowledge of food safety.
The program was funded by a grant through CREATE BRIDGES thanks to a University of Illinois Extension Specialist Susan Odum.
“We were thrilled to be able to support these students in their effort to obtain this very important certification,” said Odum.
The CREATE BRIDGES steering committee targeted sectors in the regional economy including retail, accommodation, tourism and entertainment to develop a regional plan.
Part of their work targeted funding for professional development and training. Vienna students that now possess this additional certification will strengthen those sectors.
