Illinois principal selected to serve on state advisory council

VIENNA, Ill. (KBSI) – Vienna High School Principal, John Giffin has been selected to serve on the Advanced Illinois Educator Advisory Council he states, “I think the biggest thing is that this group is trying to make sure students have access to high quality education.”
Giffin has served in education for over 20 years. During his tenure at Vienna as principal, the school has undergone substantial change, and experienced noted academic and climate related improvements. It’s something that Giffin is hoping to take with him on this journey of change.
Giffin says, “A lot of students have that, but there are students who fall through the cracks and how do we, how do we identify those students and insure that doesn’t happen.”
Superintendent Joshua Stafford says Giffin is a national board-certified teacher, which is a distinction that is held by only 3% of educators.
Stafford says, “For him to be selected out of numerous candidates to be chosen on the Advance Illinois Educator Advisory Council is certainly an honor and speaks to his professionalism and leadership.”
Giffin says he hopes to help with increasing the number of students who are interested in education majors to lower the national teacher shortage, along with making sure students are kindergarten ready.
