McLeansboro police ask for public’s help identifying 2 accused of using counterfeit money

MCLEANSBORO, Ill. (KBSI) – McLeansboro police ask for help from the public to identify two people suspected of using counterfeit currency.

The suspects were caught on CCTV security footage from numerous businesses in McLeansboro.

The two males may not be from the area and are believed to be traveling in a silver Chevrolet Malibu. The plates of the vehicle had been removed at the time of the counterfied money was used. However, the license plates may have been placed back on the vehicle after leaving the scene.

Police say the suspects used at least two different older style large denomination bills ($100). Both bills were checked with a counterfeit currency marker and passed. However the bills were later found to be counterfeit after using sanitized liquid to show the ink would smudge.

Police ask businesses in the southern Illinois area to be on the look out for counterfeit currency.
