FOX23 celebrates National Weatherperson’s Day
(KBSI) – February 5 is National Weatherperon’s Day.
The reason we celebrate this on the 5th is because it commemorates the birth of John Jefferies, who is one of America’s first weather observers. Jeffries began taking daily weather observations in 1774!
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Jeffries took the first balloon weather observation over London in 1784.
He carried a thermometer, a barometer and a hygrometer to the height of 9,000 feet.
This is a day to recognize the men and women who collectively provide Americans with the best weather, water, and climate forecasts and warning services of any nation.
And most of all, we would like to thank and recognize our coveted weather person, and true treasure for weather, Rusty Dawkins and the rest of the weather team at FOX23 News.
