AI bots enroll in university courses
PALM DESERT, Calif. (KBSI) – College of the Desert students and teachers are asking the school to identify and boot artificial intelligence bots from their classes.
In 2021, the US Department of Education confirmed to the LA Times that they were investigating a bot scam in which they alerted thousands of colleges across the nation.
Last semester, school officials say they had to repay $30,000 in federal aid that was paid to enrollees who never attended.
“A lot of students like they need to take a class, or it’s a class that fits their schedule, like perfectly. And they can’t take it because like bots are taking it up,” said a student at College of the Desert.
People at the school are making them take a close look at their rosters and drop students who are not participating.
