SEMO baseball drops final game of series with Toledo, finishes week 4-1, looks ahead to Middle Tennessee on Tuesday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The Southeast Missouri baseball team hosted Toledo in the final game of four-game series Sunday afternoon at Capaha Field.
After a walk-off win in game one on Friday and two blowout victories yesterday, the Redhawks were looking for the series sweep and their sixth straight win overall.
SEMO fell behind 9-3 in the 4th inning but rallied to cut the deficit to one run twice, including in the bottom of the 9th, but Toledo hung on to win, 10-9, and salvage the final game of the series.
Despite this loss, SEMO head coach Andy Sawyers was pleased with the way his team has played over the last week.
“We made a lot of progress offensively. Much better showing this weekend offensively from the boys,” he said. “Four good games this week, won at Mizzou, which is always a big, big win for our boys, and then to win the first three games of this series against Toledo, I thought we played very well. Didn’t finish the way we wanted to today in the fourth game of the series against Toledo, but we fell behind early with that big 4th inning. We’re chasing six, and the boys rallied back to give us a chance there at the end. I’m just pleased with how we played, pleased with the progress we made, and hopefully we can keep it going next week.”
The Redhawks will be back in action at Capaha Field on Tuesday against Middle Tennessee State. First pitch for that game is at 3 pm.
