PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) – A Paducah man faces attempted murder and weapons charges.

Paducah police arrested Leroy Johnson, 42, of the 1400 block of Atkins Street, charges of attempted murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Police say Johnson fired a shot at another man during an argument Thursday night.

Police were called at 10 p.m. Thursday to H.C. Mathis Drive and North 14th Street to a report of shots fired.

A man told officers he was walking on Atkins Avenue when a white SUV almost hit him.

The man said the SUV pulled into a driveway. He says he and the driver, later identified as Johnson, got into an argument.

The man said Johnson went into the house, returned with a black handgun and fired a shot at him.

Officers went to the house to talk with Johnson and found a spent shell casing on the front porch.

Johnson was found inside the home. Police say he matched the description given by the victim.

A search warrant was obtained for Johnson’s house. Officers found a black handgun.

Police say Johnson has multiple drug-related felony convictions and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Johnson was arrested and booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
