Paducah man facing attempted murder, weapons charges

PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) – A Paducah man faces attempted murder and weapons charges.
Paducah police arrested Leroy Johnson, 42, of the 1400 block of Atkins Street, charges of attempted murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
Police say Johnson fired a shot at another man during an argument Thursday night.
Police were called at 10 p.m. Thursday to H.C. Mathis Drive and North 14th Street to a report of shots fired.
A man told officers he was walking on Atkins Avenue when a white SUV almost hit him.
The man said the SUV pulled into a driveway. He says he and the driver, later identified as Johnson, got into an argument.
The man said Johnson went into the house, returned with a black handgun and fired a shot at him.
Officers went to the house to talk with Johnson and found a spent shell casing on the front porch.
Johnson was found inside the home. Police say he matched the description given by the victim.
A search warrant was obtained for Johnson’s house. Officers found a black handgun.
Police say Johnson has multiple drug-related felony convictions and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Johnson was arrested and booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
