Murray man found slumped over steering wheel facing multiple charges

CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – A Murray man faces several charges after sheriff’s deputies found him slumped over the streeting wheel in his vehicle resting on a tree.
Charles M. McPhail, 48, of Murray faces charges of fleeing and evading police 1st degree (Class D felony), resisting arrest, operation a motor vehicle under the influence 1st degree aggravated circumstances, leaving the scene of an accident and wanton endangerment 1st degree (Class D felony).
Deputies with the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a vehicle that had reportedly ran off the road in the 9800 block of Hwy 94E on March 8 around 4 p.m.
When they arrived they found the vehicle resting on a tree with the driver slumped over the steering wheel.
The vehicle was running, in drive with the driver’s foot on the accelerator, according to sheriff’s deputies.
While they tried to get the driver out he became conscious and tried to leave the scene by backing up.
He got the vehicle off of the tree.
McPail left the scene at a high rate of speed in the vehicle while officers chased.
He traveled over fields and creeks until he got to his home where he was arrested.
McPail was brought to Murray Calloway County Hospital where deputies say he refused treatment saying he wasn’t injured.
He was taken to the Calloway County Detention Center.
