Former restaurant owner faces federal charges
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A former Cape Girardeau restaurant and food truck owner is facing several federal charges.
Shawn Stockard Sr. is former owner of Broussard’s restaurant in downtown Cape Girardeau and owner of food truck Stockard’s Cajun Shack and More.
According to documents if convicted the federal government could seize more than 200 weapons from Shawn Stockard Sr.
Stockard is also being charged with on a federal drug indictment which stems from an arrest made by the Cape Police Department in February.
Cape Girardeau’s Public Information’s Officer Bobby Newton gave details of the arrest.
“On February 4th, 2024 around 1:30 p.m. officers with the Cape Girardeau police department conducted a traffic stop during that stop he located a large quantity of prescription medication and ultimately Shawn Stockard Senior was taken into custody and former charges were applied for.”
According to the arresting officer upon searching Stockard’s vehicle they found containers of pills, cash, and brass knuckles. He faces two felonies and a misdemeanor charge. At the time of the arrest a federal indictment investigation was still ongoing from 2021, charging Stockard with transporting, saling and receiving hundreds of guns outside of the state of Missouri.
“We work really closely with federal agencies as well so anytime that we have charges that they may be interested in they can pick those charges up and federally indict the individual,” says Newton.
Which is what happened in Stockard’s case, an additional federal indictment against Stockard was issued on March 5, 2024 for possession and intent to distribute controlled substances.
Stockard plead not guilty on March 14, where the judge ordered Stockard to be detained.
Stockard is in federal custody pending his next federal court date on June 20.
Newton says they work closely with federal agencies.
“Our ultimate goal is to get criminals off the streets and anytime we can work with federal agencies to help impact that or make that better we do that.”
