1 arrested after attempted robbery in New Madrid

NEW MADRID, Mo., (KBSI)- New Madrid police say the morning of March 26th the attempted robbery occurred at New Mad Smoke.

The victim, a store clerk, says the man came into the store wearing a fur coat and an orange face covering carrying a golf club and demanding money.

The victim reported that she thought she knew the identity of the suspect and police say he ran from the store after she refused to give him the money.

Police launched an investigation and found the suspect to be 41-year-old Tony Rhines.

Police say they searched his residence and found a golf club and the orange face mask connected to the attempted robbery.

Once police found Rhines, they placed him under arrest for attempted robbery.
