Sheriff’s deputy dies in traffic crash

SYCAMORE, Ill., (KBSI)- Many law enforcement agencies are feeling the weight of a traffic accident that has left an on-duty sheriff’s deputy dead.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office shared on their Facebook page the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office release statement.

On March 28, 2024, at approximately 10:39 p.m. a DeKalb County sheriff’s office squad car was involved in a traffic crash on Route 23 south of Perry Road.

The sheriff’s office requested the Illinois State Police to conduct a traffic crash investigation into the incident.

Sheriff Andy Sullivan says, “It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that I am announcing that deputy Christina Musil, 35 years of age was killed in the line of duty when her vehicle was struck from behind. Deputy Musil is a five-year veteran of the DeKalb County sheriff’s office, who courageously served in the corrections and patrolled divisions.”

Musil also served her country in the Army National Guard as a military police officer for four years and served in Afghanistan from 2008 to 2009.

Funeral arrangements are pending, and more information will be issued once they are confirmed.

The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police and the county coroner’s office.
