Cape County voters arrive to polls to cast ballots

CAPE GIRARDEAU Mo. (KBSI) – Voters arrive to Cape County polls to cast ballots, with a property tax increase for public safety employees being a key issue.

On the ballot is the option to vote for the property tax increase for the city of Cape Girardeau of .25 per $100 of assessed value that would go to benefit public safety personnel, fire and police personnel.

Phyillis Sides, a voter at the A.C. Brase Arena, shared her opinion about the proposition to increase salaries for police and firefighters, saying, “They work hard, and sometimes they don’t get credit for what they do. I think it’ll be beneficial for them, and everyone deserves a living wage.”

Voters who voted against the tax levy say it’s because the believe the city can find funding from other sources.

Reaction and results on this race will be avaible on the Now Local News app.
