Family members remember missing woman on 45th anniversary of disappearance

SCOTT CITY, Mo. (KBSI) – April 17 marks the 45th anniversary of the disappearance of Cheryl Anne Scherer.

The 19 year old vanished from the Scott City gas station where she worked on Tuesday, April 17, 1979.

It happened just before noon that day.

She had been employed at the Rhodes pump on Main Street for over a year and considered a model employee.

The Scott County Sheriff investigators say her car, keys and purse were left inside the small station.

Four hundred and eighty dollars in cash were missing from the register.

Her sister Diane and brother Anthony spoke about 45years of searching. They say their sister had no enemies and to this day they still have hope.

“Just an ordinary girl going to work that day just like the rest of us do and then that can happen that quick and how fast life can change,” said Diana Scherer-Morris, Cheryl’s sister.

A remembrance and celebration of Cheryl’s life is planned for Sunday, April 14 at 1 p.m. It will be at the St. Denis Parish Center in Benton. There will be guest speakers. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to wear yellow to represent hope for Cheryl and all missing persons.
