Cape Central Junior High holds wellness fair for students
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo (KBSI) – The Cape Central Junior High School held a health and wellness fair today for their students featuring Southeast Missouri State University’s nursing and dietetics majors.
The physical education program held this event for the second year in row, last year it took place at the Cape Central Middle School.
The school’s physical education teacher, Darren Neels, likes how Cape schools and Southeast can get together for a fair like this, “I think it’s a really cool thing in Cape when we can collaborate with the university. I mean what an awesome resource for us to have just down the street. So, it’s really cool for our kids to see the college students and vice versa for them to come visit us and see what we’re doing here in the same town.”
Neels says not only is this beneficial for the junior high students, but the districts dietician thinks it’s great for the college students too, “I just like that this is a way to have a little bit more interaction and let students see how college students are working and what they’re learning and that sort of thing. And also, for the college students to have a touch point or connection point where later if they’re looking for jobs. Some college students might not even think like oh there’s a whole district to apply to and they’re right here in the town, so I think it’s just a neat little partnership.”
