CHS math students receive 27 medals in Southeast MO State University’s Math Field Day

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI)- Thirty Cape High School math students competed in Southeast Missouri State University’s 2024 Math Field Day event on Thursday, April 11.
Of the 30 events, the students medaled in 27 of them, making up a 90 percent podium rate.
Cyrus Boxdorfer and Kelly Mattes kicked things off for CHS by claiming the famous sunglasses of Dr. Carlos Vargas on stage.
The students had a total of 35 medals and plaques, making up 35 percent increase from the previous record of 26 awards set in 2022.
The CHS students also took back and won the Problem-Solving Event that eluded them in 2023.
This was a team effort that took collective skill of 30 participants.
These efforts led CHS to receive the SIGMA award, which goes to the school that wins the most awards.
This was the first time in at least eight years since CHS has won the SIGMA award.
