Franklin County sheriff honors telecommunicators during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is April 14-20.
The first 911 call in the United States was made on February 16, 1968 in Haleyville, Alabama.
911 is used around the country to report emergencies and request assistance from police, fire and emergency medical services.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office employs eight Public Safety Telecommunicators.
In 2023, they dispatch 19,587 calls for service and answered 9,192 911 calls.
