Vienna High School girls & boys basketball coaches make Coach of the Year list

VIENNA, Ill. (KBSI) – Vienna High School’s boys and girls coaches are being recognized with the Coach of the Year distinction from the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.
Vienna High School Boys Basketball coach Stephen Dreher and Girls Basketball coach, Rick Metcalf, are being recognized with the Coach of the Year distinction for 2023-24.
This is the second year in a row Coach Dreher received the award.
The Eagles won three Black Diamond Conference titles in a row under Coach Dreher’s leadership. The team averaged 26 wins per year over the past three seasons and set a new school record for wins in a season with 29.
The Eagles have reached the IHSA 2A Regional Championship game each of the last two seasons.
Coach Dreher had a 26-7 record this past season. He has an overall record of 84-33 since he started coaching at Vienna in 2020.
This is Coach Metcalf’s 11th selection for the honor. Under his leadership, the Lady Eagles became IHSA 2A regional champions for the first time since 2018 and have averaged 19 wins over the past 4 seasons.
The Lady Eagles won the Eldorado Lady Eagles Midwinter Classic in January of 2024. Coach Metcalf had a 26-8 record this past season. His overall record is 75-34 since he started coaching at Vienna in 2020. Coach Metcalf was inducted into the IBCA Hall-Of-Fame in 2009. He has a career record of 686-230.
