Buckner man accused of shooting firearm near people

BUCKNER, Ill. (KBSI) – A Buckner man faces charges after the Franklin County sheriff says he shot a gun in close proximity to others Saturday night.

Cody W. Crews, 29, of Buckner faces two counts of domestic battery, interference with the reporting of domestic violence and reckless discharge of a firearm. Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon says additional charges are possible.

Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a domestic violence incident in Buckner around 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, May 11.

While en route, the caller reported that the alleged suspect was in possession of a firearm and had shot the gun.

Deputies requested assistance from area municipal departments and also contacted EMS. The Illinois State Police also dispatched troopers.

Deputies found those involved and determined that the suspect was no longer in possession of the firearm, but had shot the gun in close proximity to other people on scene.

Deputies and other officers began collecting information. They arrested Crews.

Sheriff Bacon thanked the numerous municipal police departments and the Illinois State Police for responding to assist.

Crews was taken to the Franklin County Jail.
