Man facing charges after Carbondale shooting arrested in Centralia

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A man facing weapons charges in Carbondale was arrested in Centralia.
Kaemarius Parks, 18, of Centralia was arrested at a home in Centralia, Ill. on May 25. He faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated unlawful use of weapons.
Parks is a suspect in a shooting that happened on the morning of May 18 in Carbondale.
Carbondale police officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 700 block of South Lewis Lane on May 18 at 6:50 a.m.
Officers found two people with gunshot wounds.
Officers rendered aid. The two victims were taken to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale by the Jackson County Ambulance Service. One of the victims was treated and released. The other teenage juvenile victim received continuing treatment. A police investigation revealed that the shooting was a result of a dispute between known acquaintances.
Police say Parks initially refused to get out of the home in Centralia on May 25, but he eventually surrendered to law enforcement.
Parks was taken to the Marion County Jail. He has since been extradited to the Jackson County Jail.
He had his initial detention hearing on May 31.
Parks was detained pending the prosecution of his case for charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated unlawful use of weapons.
The Centralia Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Central City Police Department, Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police assisted in arresting Parks.
