Deadly hit-and-run leaves police searching for answers

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) — City of Carbondale police officers responded to the intersection of East Walnut Street and Wall Street for a person who had been hit by a car while crossing the street. The pedestrian, a man in his 60’s was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries.

it was determined the car that hit the pedestrian had left the scene and was last seen traveling east on Walnut Street. The car is a 2001 silver Mercury Grand Marquis with Illinois registration DS 98884. Police believe the car may have been damaged as a result of the crash.
