Poplar Bluff Doctor weighs in on the Importance of Firework Safety
POPULAR BLUFF, Mo. (KBSI) – As the July 4 draws closer it is important to remember to take safety precautions when enjoying fire works to avoid any injuries. Dr. David Wood with the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center sat down with Fox23 to talk about how you can help keep you and your family safe this independence day.
Dr. Wood began by telling me about why fire work safety means so much to him, saying ” I was involved with an accident in the past and suffered from that and since that I’ve been definitely a strong component of it and kind of push for it so a lot of people are educated on it that may not know how dangerous fireworks can be.”
Dr. Wood then said that when enjoying different fire works be sure to ” stay with what you’re comfortable with make sure that you’re not doing something that you aren’t uncomfortable with and make sure that you always have safety.” Dr. Wood reiterated by saying “I mean, even even the simple things like sparklers can be some of the most dangerous fireworks.”
Overall, Dr. Woods wants everyone to still enjoy their 4th of July as he says, “the biggest thing is to just to stay safe and whatever you’re doing we definitely still want you to be able to enjoy your Fourth of July and be able to enjoy your time.” While staying safe Dr. Wood also pointed out that, “you know a lot of the crates the mortars can be very dangerous, they can fall over they can explode on the ground and they can cause a lot of injuries.”
Dr. Woods wanted everyone to know that you should be “very cognizant of your surroundings, be very knowledgeable on what you are doing be aware and be around somebody that’s experience so you can practice safety.”
