Man facing multiple charges after shooting in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces multiple charges in Carbondale after police were called for a report of shots fired.
Justin N. Perteet-Lovelady, 18, of Carbondale is charged with multiple counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Carbondale police responded to the 700 block of Main Street in Carbondale near the intersection of Springer and West Main around 11:30 a.m. on June 21.
Video shows a man in dark clothing get out of a white vehicle and fire several shots at another vehicle while it drove west on Main, according to Jackson County State’s Attorney Josheph A. Cervantez.
The suspect left the area before police arrived. No one was injured as a result of the shooting. A resident reported damage to a home.
Jackson County State’s Attorney Joe Cervantez requested an arrest warrant on June 24 for Justin N. Perteet-Lovelady for multiple counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Officers found Perteet-Lovelady in the 600 block of East Grand Avenue around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 29.
Police say he ran, but was quickly arrested.
Authorities say Lovelady was in possession of a gun during his arrest.
The State’s Attorney’s Office filed a Petition to Detain Lovelady while he awaits trial The petition was granted by the court.
Aggravated discharge of a firearm is a Class 1 felony. It is punishable by four to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The sentence, if Lovelady is convicted would have to be served at 85 percent.
Carbondale police officers responded to West Main Street and North Springer Street at 11:28 a.m. on June 21 after receiving a report of shots fired.
Detectives identified Perteet-Lovelady and obtained an arrest warrant on June 24 for Perteet-Lovelady for charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
On June 29, at 1:44 a.m., Carbondale police officers saw Perteet-Lovelady in the 600 block of East Grand Avenue.
Police say he tried to run away from officers but was quickly arrested.
Police say Perteet-Lovelady was seen trying to conceal a loaded handgun moments before officers captured him.
He was arrested and the handgun was recovered.
Police say Perteet-Lovelady was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance.
He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
