Music concert organizers work to keep fans cool at Poplar Bluff music festival

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KBSI) – Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs says they are taking several protocols for the heat they are facing all weekend long.

“So, we have about 50 officers,” said Sheriff Dobbs. “We’ve had to bring officers in from other departments from four other departments as well as all the people we had available to pull it off and of course there is fire and EMS and it’s kind of all hands on deck for them as well.”

Sheriff Dobbs says they went the extra mile to ensure everyone is working together to be prepared for situations they may face.

“The Butler County EMS folks to get those folks with heat exhaustion to the cool down tent to first aid and to be evacuated if need be but were all right there side by side working together. We have good communication with them so when there is a heat exhaustion if it’s serious enough, they are transported out by UTV.”

Ryan Schnieder who is an attendee at the event says the traveled all the way from Minnesota and can see how hard the EMS are working to ensure everyone’s safety.

“We came all the way from Minnesota and it’s really hot out here and the EMS is really great they are running up and down and taking care of everybody and it’s been a great experience so far.”
