2 arrested after business theft, police chase in Portageville

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. (KBSI) – Police arrested two women after a business theft and police chase in Portageville.

Portageville police were called to a business at 200 US Highway 162 East on Tuesday, July 2 around 5:50 p.m. for a theft.

As officers arrived, they saw suspects leaving the scene in a blue Nissan SUV with a Tennessee license plate.

They tried to do a traffic stop, but say the driver drove eastbound on Hwy. 162 before turning southbound on Interstate 55.

During the police chase, officers say the 51-year-old woman driver tried to ram an officer’s vehicle.

Officers stopped the vehicle after they say the driver struck the rear end of a patrol vehicle.

The driver and a 31-year-old female passenger from Memphis were arrested.

No one was injured in the crash.

Both women were taken to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department. They are being held at the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department’s Detention Center pending formal charges.

The Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Hayti Police Department, Caruthersville Police Department and New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department assisted.
