Bridge replacement project meeting in Cairo

CAIRO Ill. (KBSI) – There are new improvements being made to the US 51 Bridge. A replacement project meeting was held today at the Cairo High School.

The public is gathering to see the design files of the bridge update to come in 2028.

Keith Todd the PIO of The Kentucky Transportation Department says they have a good design layout, but it could change.

“Because of the various demand on the design it may change some of the time we get to a final design.”

Todd ensures the process and the time it takes will be beneficial to the public.

“We just asked for people to be patient, but I think people are getting more excited as we’re getting to where we can finally maybe see. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Aaron Stover the Consultant Project Manager of the bridge replacement says that safety is key and why they need to update the bridge to improve safety protocols.

“Right now, design funds have been programmed for the project through the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and their reciprocal funds are coming from so the two-story states are jointly paying for that project funded through the design phase and construction funds will be funded later on.”

The bridge will still be in use during construction so no roads will be closed.
