Chicken offal spill creates hazardous, smelly driving conditions on U.S. 62 in Lyon County

LYON COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – Drivers are urged to use caution after a chicken offal spill created hazardous and smelly driving conditions along a section of U.S. 62 in Lyon County.
The chicken offal spill about a half-mile section of U.S. 62 near the 3 mile marker.
This is in the Suwanee area. It is also near the KY 810 intersection about halfway between the U.S. 62 Cumberland River ‘Eureka Highway’ Bridge at Lake City and the I-24 Eddyville-Kuttawa Exit 40 interchange.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area due to the slick driving conditions and the smell.
The section has been getting heavy traffic as an alternate route to the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge work zone, according to Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
KYTC personnel are mobilizing equipment to help clear the chicken processing waste material from the roadway.
It is expected to last until about 5:30 p.m.
KYTC District 1 personell asks anyone with information on the truck that caused the spill to contact Kentucky State Police or the Lyon County sheriff.
