Some residents in Washington County, IL urged to evacuate after dam failure

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – People from around 200 homes in Nashville, Illinois evacuated after flooding from a dam failure on Tuesday.
The Nashville Dam in Washington County, Illinois has failed, according to officials with the Washington County, Illinois Emergency Management Agency.
A secondary dam failure has occured in Washington County. It has been overtopped with flood waters.
Residents are urged to evacuate if they are in the below shaded area. Otherwise, residents are advised to stay home.
A shelter is being set up at 680 W. Walnut Street in Nashville, Ill. The Red Cross has been activated.
Interstate 64 between Ashley and Nashville is closed, according to Washington County EMA.
The Illinois Department of Transportation reports the following road closures due to flooding.
- I-64 mile post 52-53 eastbound and westbound closed due to flooding.
- IL-127 south of I-64 to I-64 northbound and southbound closed due to flooding.
- US-50 from IL-4 to Belleville St closed due to flooding.(Lebanon, IL)
- IL-15 eastbound and westbound from IL-127 to US-51 closed due to flooding.
