Marion police K9 dies days before scheduled retirement

MARION, Ill. (KBSI) – Marion’s police chief announced the death of the department’s K9 three days before she was set to officially retire.

K9 Locki, a 14-year-old Belgain Malinois and more than 12 year member of the Marion Police Department, died the morning of Monday, July 29.

It was planned for Loeki to officially retire on August 1, but Chief David H. Fitts says she decided Monday would be the day.

He says Locki was the faithful partner and companion of Sgt. Justin Francis for the entiretly of her career at the Marion Police Department.

She begain her police career in June of 2012 after graducation from the K9 schools of Von Liche Kennels Inc. in Denver, Indiana.

She had 25 apprehensions, around 326 successful tracks, assisted in the seizure of around 2,700 pound of narcotics and nearly $275,000 in U.S. currency.
