Carbondale man facing battery charge

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A Carbondale man faces a battery charge after police officers responded to a home for a report of a battery and possible robbery.

Carbondale Police officers responded to the 1100 block of East College Street around 3:40 p.m. on July 31 for a report of a battery and a possible robbery.

The victim reported the suspect inferred having a gun.

The victim reported the suspect left the scene on a bicycle and was last seen riding toward the 700 block of South Lewis Lane.

An officer in the area saw the suspect run into an apartment in the area.

Officers found and arrested him.

Michael Mayse, 34, of Carbondale faces a charge of battery.

Police say the investigation revealed Mayse was not armed with a firearm.

They say the victim and Mayse are known acquaintances and were engaged in a property dispute.

Mayse was released with a pending court date.
