5 juveniles arrested after property damage at Carbondale splash park
CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – Carbondale police say they arrested five juveniles after investigating property damage at a Carbondale splash park.
Officers responded to the Carbondale Super Splash Park in the 600 block of South Lewis Lane on August 10 at 9:54 a.m. for a report of criminal trespass and criminal damage to property.
Officers learned that overnight, suspects damaged a significant amount of property that affected overall operations of the park due to safety concerns.
The Super Splash Park will reopen to the public on Saturday, August 17 after significant clean up and safety inspections. Workers had to drain and refill the leisure pool and lazy river to clean broken glass and make sure it is safe for everyone.
Officers also responded to multiple similar incidents of criminal trespass and criminal damage to property in the 1200 block of East Grand Avenue and in the 800 block of East Grand Avenue that had similar circumstances that occurred between between August 10 and August 12.
Police say the same juvenile male suspects were involved in all three incidents.
On August 12, detectives identified and arrested one of the suspects, a 15- year-old juvenile. He was detained in a juvenile detention facility pending an appearance in court for criminal trespass to property and criminal damage to property.
On August 13, detectives arrested the remaining four juvenile suspects who were identified. They also face charges of criminal trespass to property and criminal damage to property.
Those four juveniles were released to their parents pending court appearances.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
